This is the 16th year for Great Days of Service, a coordinated effort to serve neighbors by doing repairs for home-owners who need assistance in maintaining their properties. GDS volunteers have helped more than 400 homeowners.

The mission of GDS is to bring together individuals and groups from different faith communities, businesses, and organizations to serve God and community. The focus and goal is to renew Irving neighborhoods for qualified home-owners by restoring their properties and uplifting their spirits.

Plans begin months before the volunteer weekends as representatives of the sponsoring groups begin meeting to organ-ize and select homes for repair. GDS works closely with the City of Irving Code Enforce-ment, faith communities, and individuals in identifying potential projects.

This year’s sponsoring groups include Irving Bible Church, First UMC, the Islamic Center of Irving, Holy Family Catholic Church, Kirkwood UMC, Ben Washington Baptist Church, Plymouth Park Church of Christ, Urban Hills Church, Christ UMC, Tree Service-Plano, the Young Men’s Service League-Irving Hawks, City of Irving Code Enforcement, Irving Amateur Radio Club, and PPUMC.

Numerous local businesses also help make GDS possible by contributions of work supplies and food for the volunteers.

Remember our Lenten Offerings will benefit Great Days of Service, UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) disaster relief and our partner churches: Stare Juchy & Elk UMCs in northern Poland.

Continue to pray, donate and serve!
Thank you from PPUMC Missions Team & GDS
