Senior High Work Day This Saturday
Senior High! It’s time to get on the roof! The gutters need cleaning and the windows need washing before the Bishop arrives for his visit on Sunday morning. Join us from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm for church clean up!
You’ll find a sign-up sheet in the Youth Hall. Please let me know who is coming.
Fall Retreat at RiverBend Retreat Center
It’s time for our annual fall retreat! We’re going to the RiverBend Retreat Center in the Glen Rose area, Saturday, October 11 - Monday, October 13, 2014. This is Columbus Day weekend, so everyone has Monday off (except for Dallas ISD). We’ll leave Saturday morning and arrive in time for lunch, and return on Monday before noon.
We’ll stay in a big cabin – boys on one side, girls on the other. We’ve got lots of activities planned. The Challenge Course was a big hit last year as was archery. We’ll add in zip line, paddle boats, bonfire with s’mores, and a Scavenger Hunt. It’s going to be a great time!
The cost is $100/per person. Partial scholarships are available. The deadline to register and pay is Sunday, September 28, 2014. The sign-up sheet is in the Youth Hall on the bulletin board as you enter the room.
Be sure to join us at Student Outreach on Wednesday nights. This is week three in this month’s theme is “Back to School”. This week’s topic – Peer Pressure. Here’s a fact - no matter where you go to school or who you hang out with, peer pressure is inevitable at school.
The temptation is always there to give in to peer pressure. You can make your life so much easier by deciding how you are going to respond before it even happens. Whether it’s something as big as drugs or something seemingly small, like gossip, there is going to be pressure to act in a way that contradicts the Bible. Be prepared this year by knowing what the Bible says.
The Youth Hall opens at 6:00 pm for hanging out, playing pool or ping pong. Dinner begins at 5:30 pm or you may bring food with you and hang out with your friends before we get started at 7:00 pm.
Student Outreach runs from 7:00 - 8:30 pm. You may wait for your youth outside or come inside to pick them up.
Why, yes! I would love to bring lunch to you at your school! Fill out a card in the Youth Hall, and we’ll draw one lucky student each week at Student Outreach.
Each district has a policy for bring outside food into the school, because of the need to comply with Federal Nutrition Guidelines. All districts require a background check.
In addition, Irving ISD requires a note from the parents to be brought the day that I bring lunch.
September Mission Project
Each month, we have a Mission Project in Sunday School and Student Outreach. This month we’re collecting gently used blankets and towels for the Irving Humane Society. The Humane Society is one of our favorite places to work in the summer—let’s see if we can help out our furry friends with some of our old blankets and towels.
Look for a box in the Youth Hall and the Ministry Center.
Sunday School begins at 10:15 am immediately following P3.
We gather in the main room for a quick breakfast before splitting into grade-level classes. The breakfast is provided by parents each week on a rotation schedule.
The Heller family is in charge of breakfast this week, September 21, 2014.
