Sunday School

We are heading to the movies for the summer. We will use movie clips to talk about Bible stories. This week Club 345 will watch a clip from “Chariots of Fire” and talk about Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego standing up for their beliefs. Kid Kingdom will watch a clip from “The Goonies” and talk about Daniel in the lions’ den. Thanks so much to Tiffany for leading yesterday!

VBS is Coming Fast!!

We need volunteers to help with registration Sunday from 9:45am-11am (can be split into two shifts) and 12noon until people are gone.

The dates for VBS are July 22-26 from 9am-12noon each day. We are still looking for a few good volunteers so please email me to help.

DON’T FORGET VBS WORK NIGHT WEDNESDAY, 6:30-8:30PM!!

Childcare available with 24 hours notice.

We need:

• 4 Paint buckets
• CEREAL BOXES (cracker boxes or anything like that)!! We need at least 60 so bring whatever you can.

Summer Mission Project

Our summer mission project will be to raise money to be sent to FUMC, West for disaster relief. We will be raising money like we have the past two years for Backpacks 4 Kids – we will have paper cards in $1, $10, $25, $100 increments. Each person who buys one will write his/her name on it and we will tape it up to the window in the hallway by the sanctuary. We need child volunteers (with an adult present) to sell each Sunday, June 16, 23, July 7, 14 at the following times:

• 9:00-9:30
• 10-10:30
• 10:30-11
• 12- 12:15

While we know that there are several places who need our help desperately we have committed to helping West which is a long way from full recovery. Please look for at least one time when you and your child can help their fellow Texans.

American Girl Club

The next American Girl Book Club will be June 27 at 6:30pm-8pm. We will be talking about Cecile and Marie-Grace – 2 girls from 1853 New Orleans. I have one book left if anyone needs to borrow one.

We will once again have American Robotics come and lead Lego Robotics activities. Registration forms are available below, or from me at cori@ppumc.org. The meetings are scheduled for June 20, July 11, July 25, August 8, and August 22 from 6:30-8pm in the Youth Hall. The ages are kindergarten-5th grade but the child must be mature enough to participate in group activities.

**We need a couple of parents to stay and help this time. Most of the nights I will have my kids here to help (they have actually worked for this company and so know what to do) but neither one can be here this week**

Our mission day with Irving Cares is on for June 25. We will meet at the church at 9:30am, drive to Irving Cares for a tour and to help. Then we will head to Cici’s for lunch. Plan to send money with your child for lunch. We will return to the church at about 1pm. I need another driver and chaperone so please let me know if you can help. PLEASE RSVP SO WE CAN LET IRVING CARES KNOW HOW MANY TO EXPECT.

Children's Ministry will be collecting to help our friends in West, Texas starting today and ending July 7, 2013.

Stop by our table in the Ministries Center and buy a map of Texas for $1.00, $10.00, $25.00, or $100.00 (or any combination of these), put your name on a map and let us tape it up to show you support your fellow Texans.

All funds will be sent directly to FUMC, West, Texas and will go directly to help victims of the disaster.

Vacation Bible School 2013

PPUMC Children's Ministries invites all children to step right up at EVERYWHERE FUN FAIR: WHERE GOD'S WORLD COMES TOGETHER Vacation Bible School. Explore and experience God's welcoming love at VBS! The fun begins July 22 and ends July 26 from 9 am-12 noon each day.

The adventures include interactive Bible fun and great music, super science, cool crafts, hands-on mission work, global games and more. Be a part of all the excitement at EVERYWHERE FUN FAIR.

Join us to prepare crafts and decorations for VBS this Wednesday, June 19, 2013, from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM. This is open to everyone whether you are working at VBS or not. Come have fun while helping us with the biggest outreach mission of the church.

We will need sturdy boxes of all sizes, a large stuffed koala, and a mega-size world map (one of those that takes up a whole wall). 

If you have any of these that you will let us borrow please bring them to Cori Bell. Thanks!

MARK YOUR CALENDAR! August 1-3, 2013

The Missions Garage Sale is a huge event in the life of our church. The proceeds are donated to missions supported by our local church while the sale itself serves as an outreach to our local community.

Sunday morning curbside drop-off service will begin on Sunday, June 23 to Friday, June 28, 2013, outside the Activity Room. Items may be dropped off at the church during office hours and on Thursday evenings beginning Monday, June 24, 2013 up to Friday, July 26, 2013.

We invite you to come and help prepare for the garage sale during our weekly work sessions – even if you can only stay for a few minutes each time. Work sessions are every Tuesday from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon and every Thursday from 3:30 pm to 8:30 pm.

Congregational Preview will be on Wednesday, July 31, 2013, which includes a dinner featuring world-class barbeque by Joe Canafax and side dishes and dessert by our UMW Circles. The public sale will be from August 1 to 3, 2013.

On June 14th, the Senior High youth and their adult sponsors will hit the road for Biloxi, Mississippi for their annual summer Mission Trip. We’ll be building new homes and repairing others for families displaced by Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

A highlight of the trip is the cards and notes of encouragement and support from their church home. One of the first things both youth and adults do after a hard day’s work is check their personal mailbox. It’s a special surprise for our first-timers to hear that people they don’t even know are supporting and praying for them.

You may write a note to a specific person or you may write a note to be given to anyone. You may write as many notes as you would like. If you’re writing to a specific person, write the name on the envelope. Write “Youth Missionary” or “Adult Missionary” on all other envelopes.

Please deliver all cards and notes to the youth office by Monday, June 10th.
