2017 Journey to Advent

“Journey to Advent” Activities

The Sunday after Thanksgiving Day, members at Plymouth Park UMC got busy preparing the church building for Advent, the season looking forward to the birth of our Savior on Christmas Day.
The big tree was set up in the sanctuary after the 11:00 service, just a part of the traditional Hanging of the Greens! Members of all generations gathered in the Activity Room during the Sunday School hour for a “Journey to Advent,” moving through craft stations that focused on Mary, Joseph, John the Baptist, the Birth, and Jesus as the light of the world. Other happenings that day included the Advent Workshop — expanded this year to include adults as well as children — and the Tamale Lunch served by the youth to support their Angel Tree fund.

2017 Missions Garage Sale

Missions Garage Sale Supports Church, Local Charities
More than $20,300 was raised at the recent Missions Garage Sale to support local, area and world mission projects during the coming year. Church members, friends, and neighbors provided thousands of items for the sale and hundreds of volunteer hours during the months leading up to the big event July 26-29 — then shopped generously! Besides the items sold, local agencies benefiting from donated goods included the Northgate UMC clothes closet, Many Helping Hands, the Main Place, Goodwill, DAV, Arms of Hope, the Humane Society, and quilter and knitting groups that provide comfort for hospital patients. The PPUMC Missions team offers special thanks to Joe and Barbara Canafax and the UMW for providing the Preview Night Dinner and to all who helped make this event successful. The dinner/preview began three days of shoppers filling the church’s rooms and hallways through the closing bag sale on Saturday. Chair Diane Mannon and other volunteers looked forward to a well-deserved rest.

2017 Vacation Bible School

This year at VBS, youth members Daniel Ruiz, Lauren Montigue and Donovan Garcia were transformed into robots at a morning assembly, while Kirsten Woodruff and Jameson Cross were ready for a new day of fun! 1st-3rd graders listen to a Bible story, and participants make cards for our friends at Brookdale Senior Living. Plus, robot friends were among the displays the following Sunday, June 25, 2017, and we all enjoyed SummerFest — a potluck lunch in the Activity Room and some outdoor water fun for the kids.
