We have teamed up with American Robotics to host our Lego Club this year. We will meet on June 14, June 28, July 12, July 26, and August 7 (note: this one only is a Tuesday) from 6-8:30pm each night in the Youth Hall. While we do not have a charge we are accepting donations to help cover the cost ($5-$10 a class would be helpful but not necessary to attend).
I do need to have RSVPs for this class so that American Robotics can be sure to have enough supplies and helpers on hand.
To sign up or for more information contact Cori Bell at cori@ppumc.org or ext. 205.
No more Student Outreach for the school year! We had a fun time rolling around on the grass last week. It was a great way to say good-bye to the school year, and hello summer!

During Sunday morning worship
I have a concern regarding the 5-6 youth who have been hanging out in the Youth Hall during the 11 service without supervision the past two weeks, instead of going to church with their parents. I’m uncomfortable with kids roaming – or playing hide-and-seek – around the building while everyone else is in the Sanctuary. I think the potential for high jinks and damage to property is too great for us to allow this to happen. I worship at the 11 service and can not be in the Youth Hall to supervise, nor do I think supervision is the answer.
I think it’s important for our kids to be in worship on a regular basis. We need to have our kids fully integrated into the life of the church, not just at Student Outreach and/or Sunday School. Attendance at worship is a requirement for those wishing to serve on Leadership. But I also know that this is a parental call and while you consider it a success just to get them here on Sunday morning, getting them into the Sanctuary is a whole separate battle.
But just a heads up. Please communicate to your youth where you want them to be during that hour. I’ll also make it clear to them that the Youth Hall is not going to be their Sunday morning playground.
The Mogavero family is responsible for breakfast this Sunday, May 6
Confirmation Class
The Confirmation Class has the final Sunday night class this week! We’re meeting at the Ward house for David McCullough’s baptism and a cookout. Parents – separate e-mail to follow with instructions.
Friday, May 11 is the Confirmation Lock-In. This is a working lock-in, with play time after all the work is done. We’ll have a lesson in the Youth Hall, as well as in the Sanctuary, with a run-through of the Confirmation Service. It’s important for all the confirmands to be here.

Paperwork will be mailed after deposits are made.
Fish Fry
Fish Fry was a big success! Because of increased food costs, our profit wasn’t as large this year, but the crowd was a bit bigger than last year and the food was better than ever – thanks to chefs Jim Scrivner, Al Greer, Phil Gorham, John Coalson, John Dendy and Mark Hartung.
The youth did a fantastic job – we had 28 Senior High and 8th graders working hard to set up, prep, deliver and serve food, and clean up. Things ran very smoothly and I thank you all for your hard work.
Thank you also to all the parents who donated deserts and worked alongside our kids! We couldn’t do without you!!
Spring is in the air, and that means it must be time for our annual fish fry. On Sunday, April 29th, our youth, their parents, and volunteers will be serving up plenty of fish, French fries, hush puppies, onion rings and Cole slaw.
We will be selling advance tickets beginning April 15. Advance tickets costs are $10 for adults and $5 for children, with a $30 maximum per family. Tickets purchased at the door will be $12 for adults, $6 for children, with a $35.00 maximum per family. All proceeds will go towards Youth mission trips.
Phone-A-Thon begins today! If you signed up, please show up for your time slot. We’ve got a lot a money to raise between now and June 8!

Senior High Mission Trip
There is still time to turn in deposits for the Senior High Mission Trip to Tuscaloosa, Alabama June 8-16. We traveled to Tuscaloosa last week to check out our housing site and make plans for fun day. This is going to be a great trip - you won’t want to miss it!
Fish Fry is this Sunday from 5-7!
We need desserts to sell! If you can contribute, please let me know! I’ll send out reminders later in the week regarding Youth workers.
All youth participants must work at least one shift at both the Fish Fry and the Stock Sale. In fairness to all those who do work the fundraisers, if you elect not to work, your cost for the trip increases $50 per fundraiser, baring a legitimate excuse. If you have a conflict the day of the Fish Fry, let me know IN ADVANCE, and I’ll find another job for you.
Also, it has come to my attention that I scheduled the Pre-Trip Meeting on Mother’s Day, May 13! My bad!! We will move the meeting to Sunday, May 20, immediately following the 11 worship service. Pizza will be served. This is for all youth participants and parents – adult volunteers will have a separate meeting day.
This is the second week in our series “SCANDALOUS: HOW JESUS SHOOK UP THE STATUS QUO”. This week’s topic is Gender Equality. Jesus’ 12 closest disciples may have been men, but the ranks of his followers included many women. From God’s perspective, there is neither male nor female. We all have unique gifts to contribute to the body of Christ and the work of God in our world.
Sunday, April 22.
The Confirmation class will meet at the regular time this week, April 22.

This Saturday, April 14 is our work day for Great Days of Service. PPUMC’s project house is at 1008 S. English here in Irving.
There is sheetrock work, repairs to the floor and ramp, as well as painting. The youth will be working primarily in the yard. Be sure to bring work gloves and wear clothes that can get dirty!
This mission project is for youth grades 8 grade and up! We’ll start about 9 am and work until early afternoon. You can come for a few hours or the entire time. We always have great time working outside, and helping out our elderly neighbors! Lunch will be provided.
Please sign up in the Youth Hall. You’ll find the GDS Release form attached. Please print it out or pick up one in the Youth Hall, complete it and bring it with you.
This is the second week in our series “SCANDALOUS: HOW JESUS SHOOK UP THE STATUS QUO”. This week’s topic is Labels. Jesus spent time with prostitutes, tax collectors, and other “sinners.” He ministered to lepers, the blind, and demon-possessed people. And he didn’t just heal or serve them and walk away; many chose to follow and serve him after their incredible encounters.
No matter how our culture defines our social status, we have the same standing in God’s eyes. This lesson will examine ways we can look past labels and see individuals in need of love, compassion, and forgiveness.
The Martin family is responsible for breakfast this week, April 15, at Sunday School.
