Maundy Thursday, March 29th at 7:00 p.m. Participants of the PPUMC Student Outreach Ministry will be leading a very special worship service commemorating Jesus’ Last Supper and the washing of the disciples’ feet. Music, liturgy, and the message will all be presented by the youth of our church.
Good Friday, March 30th at 7:00 p.m. The Music Ministry of PPUMC will present a Tenebrae Service, which will include a combination of scripture readings, congregational hymns, and choral anthems coinciding with the story of the passion, crucifixion, and death of Jesus. This powerful service will feature the extinguishing of a candle at the end of each reading until darkness is reached, at which time the congregation is asked to depart in silence. This service represents the temporary extinguishing of the light of Christ from this world, preparing us more fully for the brilliance of Christ’s resurrection.
Easter Sunday, March 31st at 8:30, 9:15, and 11:00 a.m. A Celebration of the Resurrection will be held on Easter morning at all three worship services. The 8:30 and 11:00 traditional services will be identical, and will feature the Chancel Choir, the Sanctuary Bells, trumpet, string quartet, and Ken Surley on organ. Our 9:15 non-traditional service will feature the outstanding praise group Plymouth Park Praise. Senior Pastor Dr. Bill La Barr will preach a sermon entitled “These words seemed to them an idle tale” at all three services. You are welcome to bring some fresh cut flowers from your garden to place on our traditional Easter Cross at the beginning of each service.
We will be collecting candy for our Palm Sunday Easter Egg Hunt on March 3, 10, and 17. Candy must come individually wrapped and we also welcome stickers or small toys. Look for the box in the Ministries Center. We appreciate your donations for this fun event!
Our exceptional praise team “Plymouth Park Praise” will present the poignant musical The Story on Palm Sunday, March 24, 2013 during the 9:15 worship service. The music and accompanying video will chronicle the life of Christ from birth to his crucifixion on the cross. You will not want to miss this powerful musical presentation.
Parent’s Note: Some of the video may by inappropriate for young eyes, particularly the scenes of Jesus’ crucifixion. Children will be invited to dismiss for Sunday school early at their parent’s discretion.
Make plans now for our lunch and egg hunt on March 24, right after the 11:00 a.m. service. Our menu will be ham, Scalloped potatoes, green beans, and banana pudding for dessert. We will also have a kid's table with peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. The cost is $6.00 for adults and $3.00 for kids 3-10 years. Kids under 3 are free. You may come to the egg hunt without eating lunch but please let us know so that we can be prepared. Make your reservations with Cori Bell at x205 or cori@ppumc.org.
In keeping with our theme for the Year 2013 of Prayer and Evangelism, you will be invited to participate in a Prayer Vigil on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. in the Memorial Chapel. Materials will be provided to offer suggestions and guidance for those who would like to use any of these resources.
Beginning Ash Wednesday, you will find a sign-up chart with 30-minute time slots in the Ministries Center. If you are unable to come to the church during these hours, please still consider dedicating 30 minutes of your time on one of these days praying for the needs of our church family and the world.
Our festive Palm Sunday services will feature a traditional “Procession of the Palms” by the children of PPUMC, and will also feature the children’s choirs performing special music for this holy day. This service marks the beginning of Holy Week, and commemorates Jesus’ triumphant arrival to Jerusalem.

Plymouth Park UMC will begin the season of Lent this week with a Service of Worship and Imposition of Ashes on Ash Wednesday, February 13 at 6PM.
In honor of this Holy day, the congregation is invited to fast and join together in a break-fast meal following the service.
The meal will include juice, fruits, nuts, breads, and cheese. Our Ash Wednesday service will focus on the theme of sin in the light of God’s redeeming love in Jesus Christ.
‘Evangelism’ and ‘Prayer’ are the focus of PPUMC in 2013. So while we will accept the variety of stories that you may have to share, consider invitation and prayer as you prepare to make your offering to the Lenten Devotional Guide this year. Do you have a story about a time when you were invited or issued an invitation and witnessed or experienced transformation? The transformative power of prayer can be seen in not only big and showy ways. Sometimes the most moving stories are found in the details of everyday life. Perhaps you have a story of how you have been touched by prayer.
You are welcome to include a scripture or prayer with your story, but this is not required. This year we are most interested in your stories. Please submit either to Rev. Dana Norton’s box in the church office or by email to dana@ppumc.org by Friday, February 8 at 6:00 p.m. to ensure that your story is included. And thank you to each and every one of you who accepts the challenge to share a piece of your spiritual life with the rest of PPUMC.
