The Great Days of Service (GDS) needs volunteers to repair Irving homes. The dates are April 12-13, 2013, and April 19-20, 2013. To support this project make a donation to GDS in care of PPUMC. The communion rail offerings April 7th will be for GDS.
GDS information inserts will be in the bulletins March 31, 2013 and April 7, 2013. GDS info and volunteer signup sheets are in the Ministry Center.
Volunteers are invited to the Prayer Breakfast April 13, 2013 from 7:00-8:30 AM and to the Closing Celebration on April 21, 2013 at 2:00 PM. Both events are at Irving Church of Christ, 210 E. 6th St, Irving, TX 75060 (Click here for the map). This is the host church and GDS headquarters, 972-253-3531 and 972-510-5084, GDS hotline.
Since 2002, GDS has helped homeowners who are seniors, disabled, or unable to finance repair of their homes. GDS volunteers bring hope, caring and fellowship to our neighbors in need. Qualified homeowner's homes are repaired and our neighborhoods are improved. GDS partners with City of Irving Code Enforcement. Pray for the volunteers, homeowners and a successful mission project.
The Missions Committee appreciates your support for this local annual mission project. Contact the church office at 972.255.4185 for details and to volunteer.

Maundy Thursday, March 29th at 7:00 p.m. Participants of the PPUMC Student Outreach Ministry will be leading a very special worship service commemorating Jesus’ Last Supper and the washing of the disciples’ feet. Music, liturgy, and the message will all be presented by the youth of our church.
Good Friday, March 30th at 7:00 p.m. The Music Ministry of PPUMC will present a Tenebrae Service, which will include a combination of scripture readings, congregational hymns, and choral anthems coinciding with the story of the passion, crucifixion, and death of Jesus. This powerful service will feature the extinguishing of a candle at the end of each reading until darkness is reached, at which time the congregation is asked to depart in silence. This service represents the temporary extinguishing of the light of Christ from this world, preparing us more fully for the brilliance of Christ’s resurrection.
Easter Sunday, March 31st at 8:30, 9:15, and 11:00 a.m. A Celebration of the Resurrection will be held on Easter morning at all three worship services. The 8:30 and 11:00 traditional services will be identical, and will feature the Chancel Choir, the Sanctuary Bells, trumpet, string quartet, and Ken Surley on organ. Our 9:15 non-traditional service will feature the outstanding praise group Plymouth Park Praise. Senior Pastor Dr. Bill La Barr will preach a sermon entitled “These words seemed to them an idle tale” at all three services. You are welcome to bring some fresh cut flowers from your garden to place on our traditional Easter Cross at the beginning of each service.
This is a big week in the life of our church. This Thursday night is the Maundy Thursday service led by our Senior High Youth. Branson Horsman will be delivering the message. The Good Friday service is led by the Sanctuary choir. Both services begin at 7 pm.
This Sunday is Easter! Come dressed in your Easter finery and celebrate the risen Lord at church. Hope to see you all here!
Student Outreach
This is the final week in our “Girl Talk/Guy Talk” series. God in His uniquely creative way, made men and women beautifully and differently. It will not come as a surprise to anyone that physically we are created differently. But our physical body isn’t the only difference between girls and guys. This truth is important to accept so that we can make decisions based on a mutual understanding that guys and girls are coming from completely different frames of reference. Even our culture has recognized the unique differences and targets specific messages toward their differences.
We’ve been dividing into same gender small groups all this month.
Maundy Thursday participants
We will do a quick run-through of the Maundy Thursday service on Wednesday night immediately following Student Outreach. This will give everyone the opportunity to rehearse their part.
On Thursday evening, you need to be here by 6:30. The attire for the service is dress up – girls in dress pants or skirts, guys in dress pants, shirt and dress shoes (if possible).
Sunday School
This is Easter Sunday! Sunday School starts immediately following the P3 worship service, approximately 10:15 am. Youth and teachers begin gathering at 9:45 for a light breakfast, provided by a different family each week.
The Horseman family is in charge of breakfast this week.
NO Confirmation this week
We will take the night off from Confirmation so you may spend time with your families.
Great Days of Service
The Senior High, along with 8th graders, will be working at Great Days of Service on Saturday, April 13. We will be at the home of Albert Aleman, James’s dad to replace and paint fascia boards and siding. Plan now to strap on your tool belt and join us. The sign-up sheet is on the board in the Youth Hall.
NOTE: See outreach opportunity under the Palm Sunday Lunch and Egg Hunt heading. We will be making Easter Baskets for Kay’s kids.
NOTE: We need volunteers to help change the P3 setting to lunch after the P3 service. We need to stack all the green chairs and add tables and folding chairs. Your help will be greatly appreciated!!
Kid’s Club
The menu this week is Hamburgers, Potato Salad, Baked Beans, and Dessert.
Please let me know if you will be coming. Remember that all children’s
choirs sing this Sunday so it is important to come to rehearsal this
week.
Sunday School
We continue our study of people who encountered Jesus this week with
Club 345 and Kid Kingdom both making an art project with palm leaves to
learn about the paralytic who was brought to Jesus by his friends.
Thanks so much to Tiffany for leading Sunday school yesterday.
Palm Sunday
All children’s choirs will be singing on Palm Sunday at 11am. We will
also have our procession of palms at P3 and 11am services as well as our
lunch and egg hunt. It is a full morning for our children but a fun
and spiritual one as well.
Choir Parents
Rebecca will pick up all choir kids from Sunday school at 10:45. If you
are not at Sunday school please meet at the Bride’s Room behind the
sanctuary at 10:45. The children will parade with the palms during the
opening hymn, the choirs will be lined up in front to sing and will join
their parents when they are through.
Non-Choir Parents
All children are invited to parade with the palms. Please meet by the
Bride’s Room in the back of the sanctuary before the 11am service. At
P3, please meet in the back of Fellowship Hall before the service.
There is no minimum age and parents are welcome to come with the
children.
Palm Sunday Lunch and Egg Hunt
Make plans now for our lunch and egg hunt on March 24 right after the 11 a.m. service. Our menu will be Ham, Scalloped Potatoes, Green Beans, and Banana Pudding for dessert. We will also have a kid’s table with peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. The cost is $6.00/adult, $3.00 3-10 years, under 3 free. You may come to the egg hunt without eating lunch but please let us know so that we can be prepared. Make your reservations with Cori Bell at x205 or cori@ppumc.org. Right now we only have these signed up: Henry, Molina, Ware, Lampe and Webster.
Outreach Opportunity
We will be collecting candy and small stuffed animals or toys or small
books to make Easter baskets for some of Kay’s kids. We will also
accept monetary donations. You may bring these on the next two
Wednesdays or Palm Sunday. We will deliver the baskets to Kay on Good
Friday or Holy Saturday.
