PPUMC will begin the season of Lent with a Service of Worship and Imposition of Ashes on Ash Wednesday, February 22nd at 6:00 p.m. In honor of this Holy day, the congregation is invited to fast and join together in a break-fast meal following the service. The meal will include juice, fruits, nuts, breads, and cheese.
Lent is a season of forty days, not counting Sundays, which begins on Ash Wednesday and ends on Holy Saturday. The season is a preparation for celebrating Easter, and began as a period of fasting and preparation for baptism before eventually becoming a time for penance by all Christians. The Ash Wednesday service will focus on the theme of sin in the light of God’s redeeming love in Jesus Christ.
The PPUMC Worship team is seeking volunteers to assist with several aspects of the break-fast meal. Those wishing to help should please contact Jason Chavarría, Director of Music and Worship, at jason@ppumc.org.
What a great Sunday we had! Youth Sunday was absolutely fabulous! I have heard so many positive comments – not only about the outstanding job that everyone did, but also about the way the kids all conducted themselves in front of the congregation.
I’m always proud to be a part of the youth program at PPUMC, but I was extremely proud of all our kids on Sunday. Great job!
NO Student Outreach this week!
This Wednesday is Ash Wednesday, so there will be no Student Outreach.
The Ash Wednesday Service is at 6 pm in the Sanctuary. The Break-Fast Meal is immediately following the service in the Fellowship Hall. Please join us as we begin the season of Lent.
Youth Choir to Baylor
The Youth Choir will be in Waco at the Baylor YouthCue choir Festival. They leave Friday after school and return Sunday evening. Have fun, choir, and do your best!

Big Girl/Little Girl Sleepover
It is time for the third Annual Big Girl/Little Girl Sleepover! We are hosting a sleepover for all the little girls in the church on Friday, March 2 at 7 pm. Each little girl will be paired up with a “big” girl; we’ll make crafts, play games, do our make-up and fingernails and have lots of fun. This is an exciting event for all the girls of our church – big and little!
If you are a “big” girl and volunteer to participate, please remember that you will be working. You’ll be assigned a buddy and be responsible for ensuring that your little friend has a good time. We’ll have fun, but this is a working overnighter for you!
Confirmation
The 6th grade Confirmation Class meets immediately following the 11 am service this Sunday, February 28. Lunch will be served at the beginning of our session. We will be finished by 2:30 pm.
Senior High Mission Trip sign ups
The signup sheets for the Stock Sale and Fish Fry are up in the Youth Hall. Participation during some time slots will be limited, so get signed up soon!
We will raise over ½ of the monies necessary for the trip selling Stock and fish. In fairness to those that do work, please be aware that failure to participate in these two fundraisers will cost you an additional $50 per fundraiser
Do you have a story or a lesson to share? Now is the time to start writing. Submit one or more devotionals related to a scripture of your own choosing. Each
devotional should be no more than 500 words long. All submissions are due to Rev. Dana Norton by February 19 at 5:00 p.m.
The Great Days of Service (GDS) is planning for 2012. The dates of service are April 13, 14 and April 20, 21. The Prayer Breakfast is April 14 starts at 7:00 am, First UMC. The Closing Celebration is April 22 at 2:00 pm, First UMC.
There are several ways that you can help: identify Irving homeowners who need help with repairs; volunteer to help with repairs or other tasks; make a donation (the March 4 Communion rail offering will be for GDS.); and pray for a successful event. GDS information and volunteer sign up sheets are in the Ministry Center.
Since 2002, GDS has helped homeowners who are seniors, disabled, or don't have the funds to repair their homes. GDS volunteers brings hope, caring and fellowship to our neighbors in need. Also the qualified homeowner's homes are repaired and their neighborhoods are improved. GDS partners with City of Irving Code Enforcement.
The Missions Committee appreciates your support and generosity for this local annual mission project. Contact Andy Schellenberg, 972-313-0058 for details, volunteer and names, addresses and phones of homeowners that need assistance.

There are about 50 youth involved in all three services. There will be no Sunday School classes this week – however, breakfast will be served in the Youth Hall at 10 am as we hang out between service and wait for the 11 am service.
All youth are invited to grab a Youth Sunday shirt and sit with the rest of the Youth in any service – regardless of if they have a part or not. Shirts will be available Saturday at rehearsal or in the Youth Hall Sunday morning.
A reminder that that we’ll have a run-through of all three services on Saturday afternoon, Feb 18 at 1 pm. It’s important that all participants be here so they (and I) are confidant in their assignment. I’ve heard from several of you regarding conflicts. Please let me know if you will not be there, or I’ll give your part to someone else.
Parents – please come and support your youth. It doesn’t matter if they have a big or small part – it’s important to them!
Lenten Devotionals
All contributions for the Lenten Devotional books are due this Sunday.
Ski Trip Meeting
The Ski Pre-Trip meeting, originally scheduled for this Sunday, has been moved to March 4 at 12:30 pm.

Student Outreach
This week at Student Outreach, Jesus flips the world says upside down yet again. He said stuff doesn’t matter. Don’t get trapped thinking that your life, your popularity, your status and your identity depend on your stuff. We need to think about a different way to lead our lives - about finding our joy in Jesus on a daily basis.
Confirmation
We are having a great time in Confirmation! This year’s class is all 6th grade boys! We will meet this week at 5 pm. The High School Confirmation Class will meet for their 3rd session this week during Sunday School.

Yes, it is indeed time to begin another Grief Group. Life is ever changing and we all will eventually experience grief due to the loss of a loved one. If you are struggling, please plan to attend the Grief Group facilitated by Rev. Dana Norton beginning February 26 for 6 weeks (12:30 – 3:30 p.m. with adjustments for other church events). If you have attended in the past and feel that you would benefit from a second group, please feel free to attend again. If you consider yourself a ‘graduate’, please contact Rev. Dana Norton in the church office (972-255-4185 or dana@ppumc.org) to volunteer for this class.
Now is the time to start listening for how God will guide you to share your experiences as part of our journey together as the body of Christ.
Your contribution will be do February 19th, but it’s not too early to start praying of how you will share in this important time in the life of our church.
